What brought you to City Fitness originally?
I came to City Fitness for the classes. After the 12th Street Gym closed, I struggled to find group fitness that felt comparable—especially Spin and Bootcamp. When I learned that City Fitness offered a wide variety of classes throughout the week and on weekends, I decided to give it a try. I liked being able to follow an instructor, focus on form and body mechanics, and enjoy the sense of camaraderie without having to plan every workout.
What were you feeling on your first day?
My first day felt exciting. I noticed people of all ages, backgrounds, and fitness levels, which made the environment feel welcoming. There was a balance of grace and challenge—I could start where I was without judgment while also recognizing there was room to grow. The staff was friendly and informative, and the experience felt like the beginning of something new.
Was anything intimidating at first, and how did that shift?
Some classes felt intimidating at first, but that was more about my own perception than the classes themselves. Once I joined, that feeling quickly faded. The instructors were supportive, offered modifications, and made the experience approachable—especially for someone trying a class for the first time.
Who made you feel most welcomed or supported?
The instructors made the biggest impact, followed by the staff and other members.
How do you fit workouts into your life?
At this point, workouts are non-negotiable for me. They’re essential to my overall health and mental clarity. I usually work out in the morning before breakfast, and because I sit for much of the day, I often fit in a second workout in the evening. I stopped viewing exercise as something I had to “fit in” and started treating it like a daily necessity.
What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself in the process?
I’ve learned that I’m relentless.
What surprised you most about City Fitness?
As someone born and raised in Philadelphia, I was surprised there weren’t more Philly natives—but it really highlights how diverse the City Fitness community is.
Is there a space, class, or routine you love?
Spin is my favorite—especially Power Spin, followed by Ignite Spin. I also enjoy BodyPump.
Any small win you’re proud of?
Reversing my pre-diabetes diagnosis is something I’m extremely proud of.
What are you working toward now?
I’m preparing for the 2026 running season and plan to repeat my 2025 race roster, where I completed 15 races. My focus is on building my aerobic base, preventing injury, and staying healthy.
What would you tell someone coming to City Fitness for the first time?
Come into the space and take what you need. Be open to learning, patient but persistent, and respectful of the people around you.
