CITY FITNESS
Member Policies
City Fitness is more than a Club: we're a neighborhood built around your goals, your recovery, and your community. These policies apply to all members, guests, vendors, and visitors at every City Fitness location, and they exist so everyone enjoys a safe, consistent, respectful, first-class experience. Please take a few minutes to read through them carefully.
By entering or using any City Fitness Club, and under the terms of your Membership Agreement or any other agreement required for access, you agree to follow all City Fitness policies, including those outlined here. City Fitness reserves the right to enforce these policies at its discretion, which may include suspending or terminating access for violations.
City Fitness reserves the right to revise, change, or update these policies at any time. If anything is unclear, your home Club’s Front Desk or Membership Team is always happy to help.
These policies supplement your Membership Agreement. If anything in these policies conflicts with your Membership Agreement or applicable state law, your Membership Agreement and the law control.
Accessing Our Clubs
Check-In. Every visit starts at the Front Desk. Please check in each time you enter a Club using your City Fitness app or another approved check-in method. If you leave and come back during your visit, you'll need to check in again.
Identification. A valid photo ID is required to activate your membership, and every member must keep a current photo on file with their account. You may be asked to show a valid photo ID at check-in at any time.
Good Standing. Club access requires your account to be current: access may be paused if your membership has a past-due balance.
Club Hours. Hours vary by location, so please review the posted hours for any Club you plan to visit. You can find them at www.CityFitness.com or at the Club’s entrance. If a Club’s hours change on a specific date, such as for a holiday or special event, you’ll be notified through the City Fitness app. All members and guests are expected to follow each Club’s posted hours and any instructions from City Fitness Team Members. Please plan to wrap up your workout before closing, since everyone must fully vacate the Club by the posted closing time, or earlier if asked by a Team Member.
Club Access. Your membership type determines your Club access: either your home Club only, or all City Fitness Clubs. You can find your access level on your Membership Agreement, or ask your home Club's Membership Team.
Club Fees: Certain services and membership changes carry a fee. These include, but are not limited to, Studio class drop-ins, membership freezes, downgrades, transfers, and cancellations. Fees vary by region. Current fees are listed on www.CityFitness.com and are available at the Front Desk of any Club. Where applicable, fees will be charged to the bank account or credit card on file for your membership. If you have questions about a fee, our Front Desk team is happy to help.
Member Conduct & Community
Respect Comes First. City Fitness has a zero-tolerance policy toward any behavior or commentary that makes another member or Team Member feel unsafe or unwelcome in the Club. We expect every member to treat fellow members and Team Members with respect at all times.
Harassment, threats, discrimination, or aggressive or disruptive conduct will not be tolerated, and may result in a warning, suspension, or termination of membership, depending on the severity of the behavior.
Inclusivity. Fitness is universal. We're committed to providing an inclusive, supportive environment for members of every age, body type, and ability. That's who we are as a Club.
Weapons and Firearms. To keep every Club safe and welcoming, weapons of any kind are not allowed in any City Fitness location, to the fullest extent permitted by law. This applies even if you hold a permit or license to carry. "Weapons" include firearms, knives, and any other item meant to cause harm or that could reasonably be used to cause harm.
If you bring a weapon into a Club, a Team Member may ask you to remove it from the premises right away or to leave the Club. Not following that request may lead to removal from the Club, suspension or termination of your membership, or any other action permitted by law.
Restricted Substances. Every City Fitness Club is drug-free and smoke-free, including vaping. We count on all members and guests to help keep our Clubs safe and healthy for everyone. You may not use any part of the Club, including equipment, Studio Classes, CF Thrive sessions, recovery amenities, events, and other programs, while under the influence of any substance that affects your ability to participate safely.
If alcohol is served at a City Fitness event or by an approved vendor, you must be at least 21 years old with valid ID to drink. Alcohol must stay in designated areas, and you may not work out or use recovery amenities after drinking.
Recording, Photography & Personal Devices
Cell Phone, Camera, and Other Device Use. If you'd like to take a photo or video in the Club, please be mindful of the members around you. If someone asks not to be filmed or photographed, stop right away. No debating, no explaining.
Recording and photography are not permitted in the Locker Room or other private areas.
Commercial photography or filming requires advance written approval from City Fitness. This includes, but is not limited to, taking photos or video in the Club to promote your own or any third party's business, products, or services. Lighting, tripods, and other professional equipment are also not permitted without written approval from City Fitness.
Headphones, Please. For everyone's focus (and sanity), please keep audio and video content on your personal devices to headphones only, and take calls in common areas rather than on the gym floor. Video or voice calls are prohibited in private areas, including locker rooms, saunas, steam rooms, and recovery areas.
Locker Rooms & Personal Belongings

- City Fitness management reserves the right to cancel Locker Rental if it's found in violation of these terms. Refunds are not issued in the case of a violation.

- City Fitness management reserves the right to open or inspect lockers at their discretion.
- If you're locked out of your locker, a Team Member can open it once you show a valid photo ID and complete a Locker Opening Request form.
Using the Club
Dress Code
You are required to wear appropriate athletic attire when in any Club, using any equipment and participating in any group fitness class, training session or other activity. You must wear closed-toe shoes on the gym floor unless noted in a specific area such as the olympic weight lifting platforms, functional turf & Focus studios. City Fitness may deny you use of its Clubs if you do not wear proper attire and footwear, as determined in City Fitness’ sole discretion.
Pool, Water and Heat Amenities: Swimwear is required in any Club pool and in any water-based amenity in our Revive and recovery areas where you come into contact with the water. Street clothes, cotton athletic wear, and undergarments may not be worn in the water. Saunas and steam rooms are shared public spaces, so please wear a towel, bathing suit, or other light, loose-fitting clothing, and keep sandals or flip-flops on your feet. Workout attire, sneakers, bare feet, and nudity are not permitted in these areas. Do not use any of these amenities if you are ill or have open cuts, sores, or a skin condition. Additional rules are posted at each amenity, consistent with applicable state and local health codes, and must be followed.
No Outside Trainers: Use of personal trainers who are not employed by City Fitness is strictly prohibited at all Clubs. You may not provide personal training services to, or receive personal training services from, any other member or guest, regardless of whether a fee is charged.
Equipment: Please use all equipment as intended and return weights and accessories to their proper place when you're finished. Equipment can't be saved or reserved for personal use, and we ask that you let others work in between sets. Some equipment may be set aside for Studio Classes, so you may be asked to move during those times. Out of respect for the members around you, as well as residents or businesses in adjacent spaces in the building, please set weights down with control rather than dropping them. If you have questions about any piece of equipment please refer to the instructions that may be posted - a Team Member or your Club's Operations Manager is also happy to help.
Studio Classes
Out of respect for our members and Instructors, we ask that you honor our Studio policies:
- Studio classes are included in certain membership types and require advanced booking to secure a spot; however, walk-ins are permitted at City Fitness’ discretion and City Fitness may give away your reserved spot if you are not in the studio at least 5 minutes before class start time.
- Reservations can be canceled through the City Fitness app or by calling your Club and speaking with a Team Member.
- To prevent disruption to other members and to instructors, late entry to class is not permitted.
- Personal items, such as coats and bags, are not permitted in the studio. Day lockers are available near the studios for your convenience.
- Studio Fees:
- Drop-In Fee: A fee applies to any Studio class attended outside of your membership studio access
- No-Show Fee: Members who do not show up to a class in which they hold a reservation will be charged a no-show fee.
- Late Cancellation Fee: Cancellations made less than 2 hours before class start time will result in a late cancellation fee.
Personal Property: Please do not bring valuables onto Club premises, including but not limited to jewelry, watches, cash, and electronic devices. Personal property, including but not limited to gym bags, backpacks, purses, and coats, are not permitted on the Club floor or in studio spaces. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CITY FITNESS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR THE LOSS OR THEFT OF, OR DAMAGE TO, ANY PERSONAL PROPERTY OF YOU OR YOUR GUESTS, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY ITEMS LEFT IN LOCKERS, LOCKER ROOMS, RECOVERY AREAS, STUDIOS, AND CF THRIVE PODS. CITY FITNESS ALSO ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE LOSS, THEFT OF, OR DAMAGE TO PERSONAL PROPERTY LEFT OUTSIDE THE CLUB PREMISES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO BICYCLES, SCOOTERS, AND OTHER PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION DEVICES.
Responsibility to Notify: If an incident occurs at the Club, please notify the Operations Manager or Assistant Operations Manager as soon as possible so the matter can be documented and addressed appropriately. When feasible, notice should be provided within twenty-four (24) hours of the incident.
Guests
Bringing a Guest. Members may bring one (1) guest per visit, free of charge, for up to five (5) total complimentary visits per guest. These five (5) complimentary visits are tracked across all City Fitness locations and are not transferable, reset when visiting with a different member, or renewed annually.
- After a guest has used their five (5) complimentary visits, they are welcome to continue visiting at the applicable Member Guest Rate. Guest rates for each club are available on the City Fitness website or at the Front Desk.
- Members must accompany their guests, and all guests must check in at the Front Desk, present valid photo identification, and sign a Guest Waiver before accessing or using the Club.
- Guests must comply with all applicable City Fitness policies and procedures while on Club premises.
- City Fitness reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to limit guest access to specific Clubs or hours, restrict the number of guest visits permitted, and deny or revoke guest access at any time.
- Guests under the age of eighteen (18) are not permitted.
CF/Thrive & Personal Training
CF/Thrive sessions with your Coach are governed by your separate CF/Thrive Training Services Agreement. To cancel a CF/Thrive in-person personal training session, you must notify the Club by cancelling the session on the City Fitness App at least twelve (12) hours prior to the start of such scheduled session. Any and all session cancellations given with less than twelve (12) hours advance notice will result in forfeiture of the session without refund or extension.
- CF Thrive Session Expiration. CF/Thrive sessions expire 30 days after the date of purchase or when your membership ends, whichever comes first, unless a different expiration date is required by law or confirmed in writing by City Fitness.
- CF Thrive Refunds. Except as provided in your CF/Thrive Training Services Agreement and under applicable state law, CF/Thrive purchases are non-refundable. Sessions have no cash value, are not gift cards or gift certificates, and cannot be transferred to another person or membership. Sessions may only be used while your membership is active. If you have unused sessions when your CF/Thrive Agreement or membership ends, you will not receive a refund for them, except as provided in your CF/Thrive Training Services Agreement or required by law.
- Every member’s fitness journey is different, and individual results will vary
Membership Freezes
Life happens: if you need to pause your membership, here's how a freeze works:
- Freeze requests require 14 days notice ahead of your next bill date to take effect. You can request a freeze by completing the Freeze Request form on the CF app, online, or in person at any City Fitness Club.
- Freeze requests are not accepted by phone, email, or verbal communication.
- Freezes must begin and end on a billing date.
- Standard Freeze: in all other cases, you can freeze for a bi-weekly fee, for up to 3 months. After 3 months, your account automatically returns to active status at your original bi-weekly rate.
- Medical Freeze: with a note from your physician confirming a medical condition that prevents physical activity, you can freeze your membership for up to 6 months at no charge.
- Freezes must cover a minimum of one billing cycle.
- If you freeze during a term membership, your term extends by the number of bi-weekly cycles you were frozen.
- Club access and any of its amenities are not available while your account is on freeze.
- If you have a CF/Thrive Training Services Agreement, it can only be frozen together with your membership, and CF/Thrive sessions are not available during the freeze.
- You may end a freeze early any time by visiting any City Fitness location.
- Except for cancellations described under “Your Rights Under State Law” below, you cannot cancel your membership while it's on freeze: it must be reinstated to active status first.
Membership Cancellation
All memberships can be canceled for any reason with 30 days' notice to City Fitness.
How to Cancel
- You can request a cancellation by completing the Cancellation Request form on the CF app, online, or in person at any City Fitness Club.
- Except for cancellations described under “Your Rights Under State Law” below, cancellation requests are not accepted by phone, email, or verbal communication, and you cannot cancel your membership while it's on freeze: it must be reinstated to active status first.
- You remain responsible for any past-due balance and any early termination fee that applies under your Membership Agreement. Your cancellation may not take effect until all outstanding fees and dues are paid.
- You are responsible for any bi-weekly invoices that fall within your 30-day cancellation window.
- You'll receive an email confirmation once your cancellation is processed. If you don't see it within 5 business days of submitting your request, please reach out to us right away at billing@cityfitness.com.
Your Rights Under State Law
Depending on where you joined, state law gives you additional cancellation rights, including the right to cancel within the three-day period after signing your Membership Agreement for a full refund, and the right to cancel because of death, permanent disability, relocation, or an extended Club closure. These cancellations are not subject to the 30-day notice period or the early termination fee, although a limited fee permitted by law may apply as described in your Membership Agreement. You may submit these statutory cancellations by any method described in your Membership Agreement, which may include online submission, phone, mail, or personal delivery. If your Club temporarily closes, you may be entitled to a membership extension or, for a longer closure, a prorated refund. If a medical condition temporarily prevents you from using the Club, see Membership Freezes above. See your Membership Agreement for details. Nothing in these policies limits these rights.
Term Memberships
- If you cancel a term membership before the end of its term, an early termination fee applies as described in your Membership Agreement.
CF/Thrive
To cancel CF/Thrive while keeping your membership, submit a separate CF/Thrive cancellation request on the City Fitness app with 30 days’ notice. If your membership ends, your CF/Thrive Training Services Agreement ends with it. Depending on where you joined, the state-law cancellation rights described above may also apply to CF/Thrive, and CF/Thrive may be cancelled for medical reasons with a physician’s note. See your CF/Thrive Training Services Agreement for details.
Membership Downgrades
A downgrade fee applies for moving to a lower membership tier.
Membership Transfers
A transfer fee will apply to moving a single site Neighborhood membership to another CF location.
End of Your Term
When your term ends, your membership continues month-to-month at the rate described in your Membership Agreement unless you submit a cancellation request at least 30 days before your term ends. You will never be enrolled in a new fixed term without your consent.
Annual Facility Fee
City Fitness charges an Annual Facility Fee, automatically drafted after 6 bi-weekly billing cycles after your membership start date, and annually thereafter on that same billing-cycle anniversary
This fee goes toward equipment and facility upgrades at your Club, above and beyond day-to-day operations and upkeep. It also entitles you to an annual fitness assessment with a CF/Thrive Coach.
Your Agreement
No Verbal Agreements. City Fitness does not honor verbal agreements of any kind. Every term of your membership must be in your Membership Agreement, or added later through a signed Member Addendum Form on file with your Club.
Your Contract, On Hand. You'll receive a copy of your Membership Agreement by email when you join. Members may also request a copy at any time.

We encourage you to check back periodically so you’re always up to date.
Video & CCTV Footage: For the safety and security of everyone in our Clubs, we may capture photos, video, and CCTV footage on-site. This applies to members, guests, vendors, visitors, and event attendees. We do not share this footage with members, guests, or outside parties except when required by law, in response to a subpoena or a law enforcement request related to an active investigation, or as described in our Privacy Policy.

Where required by law, we’ll ask for your consent before sending marketing communications. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email. Members can also update their communication preferences anytime in the City Fitness app. We update our lists as quickly as we can, but you may receive one more promotional email before your request takes effect.
