Founding Members | City Fitness Fairmount
Philadelphia residents for 11 years · City Fitness members since Fairmount opening
When Sheila and Stu moved to Fairmount, finding a gym was a top priority. Fitness had always been part of their lives, and they were hopeful the former space in their neighborhood would become a gym again.
“We were thrilled when City Fitness opened. We signed up as soon as memberships were available.”
Three years later, they’re still regulars—and proud founding members of the Fairmount community.
Fitness That Fits Their Life
For Sheila and Stu, consistency matters. From day one, City Fitness has been part of their routine.
“We’ve been regulars ever since. Staying active is really important to us.”
Sheila’s workouts have evolved over time. What started with treadmill sessions, the recumbent bike, and free weights expanded once she discovered group training.
“Someone at the front desk told me about Thrive, and now I go twice a week.”
In addition to Thrive, Sheila rows upstairs, uses the treadmill on the first floor, and makes time for one of her favorite recovery tools—the sauna.
Supportive, Knowledgeable Coaching
One of the things Sheila values most is the attentiveness of the trainers.
“The trainers really pay attention. They know everyone’s limitations and help modify when needed.”
She appreciates working out with trainers who understand how to meet members where they are and help them progress safely and confidently.
More Than Physical Results
City Fitness supports more than just physical strength—it supports mental well-being, too.
“Working out helps me stay in shape so I can keep doing the things I love, like traveling. But the mental part is just as important.”
For Sheila, workouts are a chance to focus inward, quiet everything else, and invest in long-term mobility and health.
“I want to stay mobile as long as possible. I want to be able to walk to Center City instead of taking the bus.”
A True Community Feel
What truly sets City Fitness apart for Sheila and Stu is the atmosphere.
“It feels like a community center. I feel at home here—like walking into the bar on Cheers, where everyone knows your name.”
From the welcoming front desk staff to the clean, bright, and well-maintained space, City Fitness feels personal.
“It’s a first-class operation. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.”
